You have a good Surveillance and response Plan but Partner Agency Roles and Responsibilities in CWD Preparedness and Response need more attention.
-You need to tighten Canadian Border Services Agency role and formally mandate and enforce OMNRF legislation, CBSA should promote awareness of CWD cervid carcass regulations and to facilitate transfer of intelligence about non-compliance to appropriate OMNRF officials.
Preventative Measures - You need to place signs at all USA border and Provincial border crossing to make aware that "you will be charged for bringing in animal parts from other counties and provinces if they were not tested for CWD".
- You need a system that works with other countries and provinces; when an Ontario resident buys a nonresident licence in another country or province the OMNRF is notified and the hunter must report back to OMNRF that he was successful and the location they were hunting. Did they bring any body parts back, game for food or otherwise?
Enhancing CWD Prevention - Remove all farmed raised cervid from Ontario along with zoo and others that may have a cervid population. OMAFRA should be held accountable for removing these farms and zoo's.
There is more to do and we need to do it. I own extra land to hunt on, pay high taxes to hunt cervid on these properties, all ministries need to work collaborately and prevent this terrible disease becoming part ofOntario.
