Proposals for the building of so-called "tiny" homes are something that I have long advocated for. This point seems to have been addressed in the new Policy Statement. A return to the post WWII housing of the "two-up, two-down" type is greatly needed, as well as other small home types. BUT, unless developers receive some sort of benefit to building these homes they won't be built! There is simply no need for a new couple (or single person) to move into a "monster home" of the type being built all too frequently in Ontario communities. However, if a developer sees greater financial reward in building large homes what impetus is there to build small? THIS needs to be addressed.
Perhaps it should be easier for people to buy land and have the developer build a home from a selection of small designs, whether mobile or fixed?
