That threat lies in the disrespect shown to the importance of municipal input to provincial decision-making and the serious unbalancing of respective rights and responsibilities. Respect and balance are critical aspects of any lasting, effective relationship.
These proposals are manipulative, stating general support for 'apple pie' principles such as the environment, jobs, teamwork, safety and housing, while implementing the opposite in exceptions, short-term versus long-term action and vague regulations.
These proposals, unlike previous, poorly informed, impulse driven government proposals, seek to change for the worse, aspects of a foundation that underpins all provincial and municipal legislation. As such, they must be shelved permanently.
