I would suggest that expansions ( or new adjacent quarry license applications) require a demonstration that appropriate rehabilitation has taken place at the previously licensed site. This should require a site visit and input from the local municipality, and not just a confirmation by the applicant. This is extremely important when quarrying has occurred into the aquifer, and the new application is proposed to extend into the aquifer. The rehabilitation to return the aquifer level to pre-quarrying TWL is paramount to restoring adjacent well levels and maintaining groundwater quality. A cumulative impact assessment should be conducted, and a groundwater trench interceptor be avoided.
