Hello,
I am concerned that the proposed changes take power away from local governments thereby making the process less democratic and accountable. People like me feel that the interests of local landowners are often overlooked in favour of big business and moneyed elites. By removing some of the powers of the municipality to look after the interests of landowners I feel that these changes could give ordinary people even less say in their own lives.
I am also concerned that there may be a movement to open up currently protected natural areas to the aggregate industry. So far the industry has a very poor record in restoring land after quarrying operations are complete. We need to protect our important natural resources, such as our bodies pf water, wetlands and forests for future generations. Once it is gone it can not be recovered.
Thank you.
