The omnibus bill 132 appears to be full of loopholes and reductions in protections of water, soil, air. Canadians need healthy water to drink and groundwater to be protected from aggregate extraction. We need healthy soil, thriving pollinators and air that doesn’t sicken us or the animals and plants.
With fines being reduced to per incident instead of per day, for example, our health and that of the natural systems we depend on is clearly being subordinated to the interests of industry!
This bill is undemocratic in that its size requires more time to process than is being given.
Clean air, water and soil should be a birthright to protect. It should not be parceled out to the highest bidder. Our political leaders should be setting up a viable transition to a sustainable future instead of facilitating the sale of our last remaining resources. Shame on this government!
