Ontario farmers have a long history of practicing sustainable stewardship and protecting our ecosystems. Farmers conserve land and preserve soil, while growing safe and affordable food for us all. Sound public policy to create economic opportunities must be paired with thoughtful land use policy that protects water and soil for future generations
Concern for water resources is high in the farm community. Farm households need clean drinking water from their wells for their families and their livestock.
The current regulatory environment quite adequately protects our water. We would urge that the extension of the Greenbelt is unnecessary and has clearly shown to create confusion, speculation and an environment not conducive to the projected economic benefit agriculture has to offer.
The Wellington County Federation of Agriculture does not support the expansion of the Greenbelt.
