Hello,
If we have learned anything over the last few years it is to be sure there are stringent rules in place to guard our air, land in water. What ever happens to one happens to the other automatically.
The proposal would enable ground water sampling to be reduced or eliminated based on certain conditions, including some site limitations, and assessments, conclusions and certifications by a qualified person. This leaves lots of space for trouble and risk taking with our groundwater.
Our government should be taking every precaution possible to protect Ontario and it's people, not be seen as trying to cut corners. If there is an additional cost to doing a thorough job, so be it. It will all be passed down to the consumer anyway. Either we pay now, or our children and grandchildren will pay later with their health.
I would also add that scrapping the protect layer off of our aquifers is insane. I'd like to see our Government demonstrate more understanding of "natural capital" and what it does for us. Then Ontario would be safer to live in.
