Dear Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry:
In May 2018, (Premier) Doug Ford stated in a letter to the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, "An Ontario PC Government would look to unlock Crown lands for hunting, angling...". This proposal appears to be a follow up to a promise Premier Ford made to a small percentage of Ontarians who are interested in killing for sport, not in wildlife conservation.
The Endangered Species Act (ESA) this proposal refers to has been drastically modified to cater to developers and not the rapidly declining species of the province. The ESA will not be able to direct species protection on Crown Forests as inferred in this proposal.
As a taxpayer, Ontario citizen and Canadian, I ask that any changes to the act be based on evidence provided by conservationists, environmentalists and other scientists and not promises Premier Ford and the Conservative Government have made to hunters and anglers.
Damaged Crown forest ecosystems may never recover and species will become extinct unless the Ontario government prioritizes the environment.
Thank you
