As an ordinary citizen I am compelled to write to you today to ask why you are abandoning our forests. When I say forests I mean everything alive within our forests trees, undergrowth, animals, insects and fungi... everything. Why is the forest industry being allowed to bypass safeguards for the sake of money.
Doubling of harvest just because it’s there, does not mean it is a good idea. What lives in those forests? Who will speak for them? We are stewards of our ecosystems and allowing big forestry business to double their impact is irresponsible. We have a duty as citizens to protect the future of our children.
We all saw the rise in fires here in Ontario in 2019 and massive fires in Australia. Our planet is burning. We need to stop thinking about lining the pockets of large corporations and start looking at the bigger picture.
What I see is a proposal that says ‘cut now, study later’.
It will endanger species and ourselves, allowing the so called ‘red tape’ to be bypassed. Sidestepping the science will undoubtably cost us more in the long term.
This proposal is not sustainable by sidestepping the environmental impact, especially when it comes to endangered species.
