I am a woodlot owner and a member of the Ontario Woodlot Association. I have found their support invaluable and one of the few resources that assist private owner in creating sustainable and productive forests. The Managed Forest Tax Incentive Program (MFTIP), is an extremely important program that encourages sustainable forest management of Ontario's private forests. The OWA is the voice of private forests and should be consulted on ways to improve the MFTIP program. It might be helpful to establish an advisory group with the Ontario Woodlot Association a member of the group. Continue to provide an incentive for landowners to be better land stewards and encourage them to belong to a forest education association such as the OWA that has nearby local chapters , supporting their activities and providing mentoring and advice to new woodlot owners.
