My wife and I are new owners of woodland (27 acres) we are avid outdoors people and enjoy our woods. However, we didn't know much about stewarding a woodland. So we reached out to our local municipality for some direction.
We met with the county forester who, after visiting our property, recommended we join the Ontario woodlot association. There we would find valuable resources to help in our research.
This led to the discovery of the concept of Managed forests and ofcourse the Ontario tax incentives (MFTIP) to help support woodlot owners in this endeavor. Programs like these truly help by incentivizing the process, and engaging the land owners.
I hope the province not only continues with programs like these but, expands on them as well.
