I strongly support Ontario’s intention to implement a new Forest Sector Strategy (FSS). Ontario’s forest are well managed and in good health. However, without a clear vision and strategy, the many benefits available to Ontarians from its crown forests will never be realized.
These benefits include economic health and expanded jobs, enhanced recreation an other social benefits, aboriginal business development opportunities, and climate change adaptation and mitigation.
The leading forestry jurisdictions in the world, such as Finland, have learned this decades ago. By committing to a long term strategy, which includes ACTIVE forest management, they have advanced their objectives in all of these areas, for the benefit of its society an the overall health of its forests, including climate change mitigation.
I have read and support the detailed submission by the Ontario Forest Industries Association (OFIA) including their suggestions on how to improve the Strategy and the implementation plan.
