there is very little suitable farm fields in Haliburton county that would meet the setbacks. most of this area would not meet the rules because of water or the soil conditions. As much as residents would like to see this sort of thing, along with garbage dumps, in areas with no residents, that is almost impossible in this area.
Any farm field areas contain residents that already farm in some capacity. Whether they farm food, or graze animals. Manure is used in these areas. Why is animal manure so much more socially acceptable? Animals also are treated with medications, their food may contain gmo's, etc. Animals also get sick and may have disease. Their manure is not treated before it is spread on fields to add nutrients to soil to help plants grow. Or cows and horses can poop anywhere on a field. they could even potentially poop directly into a creek or stream which then travels to other properties. Poop from animals could also run off property to neighbouring properties via water. No one seems overly concerned about this.
This has been a bunch of nonsense.
No one understands that sludge from treatment plants (Toronto??) goes onto farm fields (Holland Marsh area??) and then those carrots, etc. end up in grocery stores that people take home to eat.
Approve this proposal.
