Hello:

I am a resident of the West Rouge Area and just accidentally found out about the proposed Waste Disposal Site at 633 Coronation Drive. I realize that COVID-19 has limited the circulation of information such as posting information at the libraries and communities centres but that is no excuse for not informing the ALL of the local citizens. There should have been flyers sent to all residents within a 5 km radius in this area as they all will be impacted if this proposal gets the go ahead. This should also not proceed without public hearings when we all can attend. It needs to be deferred until places reopen and meetings can be held.

I read in the article by Mike Adler in Toronto.com that residents within 200 metres of the proposed site were given undated letters about the proposal. If you look at that immediate area (within 200 metres) it seems to be mainly light commercial, not too many homes but what about the thousands of residents just to the north and east and west of that area before you get to the 401.

They would be impacted by the traffic that would be generated by the large commercial trucks trying to access the 401. It is all residential, homes, many schools, parks, community centres, libraries, more homes ... I live near the Rouge Hills GO train station and the traffic on Port Union was very busy but it has been very congested since the service levels were increased. Drivers are currently trying to use streets parallel to Port Union because it can be very, very congested during rush hour. What will happen when you add the large trucks going to and from the plant.
Any route to or from the 401 is through residential areas. What about safety issues with the large trucks. Toronto has major problems with them at construction sites and they are expected to be there. What about all of the trucks going through the local streets.
Then there is the issue with the loads that would be carried. Will we see spills of garbage from the open trucks. Will they smell? Will the plant give off bad odors from the unprocessed garbage, the process itself and the processed garbage trucked leaving. Neighbours of the sewage treatment plant have complained about that for years. What will this new plant bring.

Who in their right mind would even consider the installation of such a plant in this residential neighbourhood especially without a lot of public input. Is this avoidance because you know that it would be turned down due to the public protest. Or, do you feel you have a right to put this in a residential area with no feedback.

This is not a NIMBY issue. It does not belong in ANY residential area.

Yours truly,
A very concerned local resident
