We live in Elora, Centre Wellington, Ontario. As residents we are aware of the tremendous amount of work Save Our Water group has undertaken to protect our water supply being impeded by Nestle and the Middlebrook well, and cannot thank them sufficiently for their efforts.
Likewise Centre Wellington Council deserves major credit in putting forward a refusal for water taking for the purpose of bottling or sale. Currently our population is 29,000, by 2041 our population will be 69,000.How do we grow without protecting our water?
THE HOST MUNICIPALITY MUST have a VETO or REFUSAL for new or increasing bottled water-takings. THIS DECISION MUST BE FINAL AND NO WATER PERMIT OR INCREASE ON AN EXISTING PERMIT BE ISSUED.
Sadly major water bottling companies are going to attempt to arbitrate this decision. THE MUNICIPALITY MUST HAVE THE FINAL SAY. It is not correct that Ministry of Environment can be the Judge, Jury and Executioner and still issue a water taking permit.
