As a citizen of Ontario, I implore you to reconsider your decision to build Hwy 413.
The highway has been determined unnecessary by experts.
As we emerge from COVID-19, we may find many corporations find employees working from home is a good business model and this would reduce the need for additional roadways through the already polluted GTHA corridor.
The pollution from this area is already seeping into the Niagara Region from around and across the lake and this will increase this considerably.
It is my understanding that the government is planning to bypass the EPA process to put this through and this is unthinkable! Our farmlands and woodlots should be important to the government! We need them to live. We need farms so that we don’t have to buy so much product from the US and other countries. We need woodlands to clean our air that is continuously being polluted by the industry in the Golden Horseshoe and beyond. We need to leave our children and grandchildren a better legacy than what you are planning.
There is NO NEED for this highway, but there is a need for green space. Immediately after this government was formed, there was a proposal to build in our green spaces to which the people objected. It was withdrawn due to public pressure. We don’t want it any more now than we did then.
If you as a government are supposed to be governing for the people, according to their needs and wants, you must cancel this project!
