Re: ERO 019-1882: Proposed regulation for a streamlined environmental assessment process for the Ministry of Transportation’s Greater Toronto Area West Transportation Corridor project
I endorse the submission made by the organization Environmental Defense.
The destruction of greenspace and farmland, cost to taxpayers, health impacts on those living along the proposed route, and greenhouse gas emissions that would result from going ahead with Highway 413 are not worth the marginal benefit it would provide. Building a new highway does not make sense in the climate crisis. And expert panel determined in 2017 that this project would have little to no benefit for the public. Moreover, there has been a reduction in commuting from the global COVID-19 pandemic.
For these reasons and more, I am opposed to the proposal.
