Please do not build another road system. Please protect the environment - which includes animals as well as the geography and plant life especially trees. As Toronto gets more congested with road traffic we need these trees to clean the air and protect the ground from erosion etc. The natural plant environment also helps to protect us from climate change. These negative events may not occur in our lifetimes but if we want the planet to continue to exist in a people friendly manner for the future generations then we need to stop being so selfish. This is also the most fertile land which we need for food production. Starving people won't really care about roads when they have nothing to eat.
Instead of putting money into building a new road system put the money into a rapid transit system. I've traveled all over the world and the public transportation systems all over the world and especially in Asian countries (where many people think lives are more traditional) puts us to shame. We're supposed to be so modern and progressive but we aren't. We are continuing to live in a selfish manner where we feel we are entitled to do anything that suits us without regard for the environment, climate, animals, crops, people. City planning is failing as the 401, I've heard, is the most congested, trafficked highway in North America. That's nothing to be proud of.
Make decisions in a guided, informed, intelligent manner as if our very lives depended on decisions made BECAUSE THEY DO!
