The value of raptors in urban setting is more than pest control. It is educational, I have shown non naturalist the listed merlin, red-tailed hawk, sharp shined hawk, coopers hawk and goshawk as well as turkey vulture, [T.V] and peregrine over streets of the city. The only thin better than point out a peregrine nesting on ledge of downtown cliff [office building], is pointing out T,V, over the parking lot. T.V.s are large low and slow flying, easy to see so the non naturalist get excited at seeing a vulture. Often they become the expert pointing T.V. to friends good for humanity and nature.
As for falconry there are many rehab and captive program to provide good stock.
