I support the take of Wild Raptors in the province of Ontario for the practice of falconry. Wild-take is practiced across the US and has shown no environmental impact to raptor populations. Trapping a Redtail for an apprentice in the US is an important step in their development as a falconer and helps them become better.
Captive bred birds do not give apprentices the same knowledge that helps them practice the best falconry possible. Captive birds frequantly have behavioral issues and I believe that using wild raptors will make falconers more succesful and allow them to help raptors through their first year or so before being released increasing their chance for surviving.
