In the consideration of Falconry several things must be considered.
# 1: Falconry is an extremely old sport and is practiced on every continent and has been for centuries.
#2: Falconry has proven over the centuries to be not harmful to raptor species and game species as well.
#3: Falconry has proven to be the quite helpful to raptor species. It was falconers and their birds that led to the recovery of the Peregrine Falcon from DDT poisoning. Breeding and release programs led by Falconers ultimately led to the full recovery of the Peregrine. What was learned in these areas have been applied to other species including the Gyrfalcon, the California Condor and the Bald Eagle.
So as you can see Falconry is not at all harmful to populations of raptors and indeed quite the opposite. Those that oppose the sport are usually good people who are acting from the heart and are not aware of some of the benefits of Falconry. In addition many Falconers are more than willing to be involved in education programs to help the public understand not only Falconry but raptors in general. In addition
the Falconry community holds a Falconer to the highest standards for housing and equipment. So the legalizing of Falconry adds to the public an awareness of birds of prey.
