The changes proposed here will result in the success of both raptors and falconers in Ontario. Falconry is an integral part of wild bird of prey conservation. The welfare of the animals is of the upmost importance to falconers. Falconers provide food, medical care, and training to these creatures, helping to ensure long term success of the species if and/or when they are returned to the wild. The falconry community holds itself to the highest of standards and is quick to dissociate with anyone that does not respect the animals or the sport. Wild trapped raptors provide falconers with the opportunity to earn the trust of a wild bird of prey and form a cooperative working relationship. This trust and cooperation is the core of falconry. These changes proposed will allow more falconers to work with wild trapped birds, ensuring the survival of the sport and tradition of falconry and wild birds of prey.
