I would like to state my support for proposal ero# 019-1806 regarding the expansion of the live capture of wild raptors. I think it is an excellent proposal, well considered and modest in its expansion. Allowing licensed falconers and apprentices to trap and work with a wild bird is the essence of the thousands of years old practice of falconry. It has the added benefit of allowing for the release of the bird(s) at the end of the season without fear of missing out on the lottery to trap a new bird the following year. The bird(s) benefit from ensured survival through a winter season and the falconers benefit from the exhilarating experience of learning from and working with an experienced, wild raptor. I believe this proposal will have negligible impact on wild raptor populations in Ontario and will have a major positive impact on those who practice this ancient form of engaging with our natural heritage. Thank you for the opportunity to express my support.
