I support the MNRF proposal to expand the capture of wild raptors for licensed falconers. Due to very high mortality rates for young raptors everywhere, many first year birds are more likey to survive and reach breeding age when taken by licensed falconers and later released. First year birds are typically taken from wild in the fall by falconers and then released in the following spring. Many first year raptors do not survive during their first winter and its gennerally acknowledged that falconry does not have a negative impact on wild populations.
