I am pleased to see some progress in this regard as far as giving municipalities the right to veto *some* new or increased (above a certain threshold) water taking applications, however, i firmly believe we need to be even braver. Commercial water taking is simply wrong. You have heard all the arguments as to why including the effects on local water supply and the tremendous impact to the global environment due to the plastic bottles that commercial bottlers use so as to minimize cost. We have allowed this practice to occur too long and it is inevitable that we (the global “we”) will eventually come to the conclusion that a future of constant pollution and diversion of such an important resource from our communities simply cannot go on indefinitely. Not for profit. Not anytime. Question is, are we brave enough to lead the way in Canada and ban commercial water bottling completely? Given the steps proposed here, perhaps I have hopes that the current government is thinking of the long term and may come to the same logical place that many Ontarians (and many people globally) have arrived at. Be bold. Be brave. Ban commercial water bottling from Ontario completely.
