I am very much opposed to the changes made to environmental assessments included in Bill 197, the COVID 19 Economic Recovery Act. It is particularly ironic that such changes to facilitate "development projects" are being made when we are living the effects of a pandemic that was caused, at least in part, by human encroachment into the natural world. Please take this fact into account.
Also consider the human suffering that has been caused by past projects that contaminated the water supplies of indigenous reserves, particularly as a consequence of mining and forestry "development". The costs of remedy to the public purse are very high, to say the least.
Please be not tempted into short term gain with incalculable long term costs in terms of public health and remediation programs. Strict assessment of environmental impacts is essential for not incurring such costs.
