Thanks for the opportunity to comment on the changes enacted through Bill 197, the Covid 19 Economic Recovery Act 2020, that was passed on July 21, 2020.
As a Canadian citizen and Ontario resident I am strongly opposed to these troubling changes, which enable the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Steve Clark, to direct with impunity how land in Ontario will be developed as dictated by a Ministerial Zoning Order (MZO).
This heavy handed tool takes the power away from democratically elected municipal councils, local citizenry, and environmental experts in blatant favour of bulldozers and land developers.
No development should be allowed to take place in Ontario without the engaged and democratic consent of the municipality, its people and proper, non biased environmental impact studies.
