Local municipalities should have a strong voice in determining land use planning and heritage designations in particular. Unilateral decisions at a distance from those affected by the decisions will create unsightly and destructive uses of land and make long term planning impossible. Comment periods for any land use change, zoning change or by-law change should allow at least 90 days for comments together with public hearings. Heritage areas, residential areas and town centers are very much at stake.
