By all means expand the Greenbelt, but only after honestly protecting what was established in 2005. Re-establishing the 413 highway after it was studied and rejected is completely contrary to protection of the existing Greenbelt. Not only will it pave over valuable productive farmland, it will disrupt the natural heritage system and encourage more suburban sprawl. Furthermore, if past experience is any indicator the people of Ontario will pay through taxation for the building of the highway, only to have it given away for a song like was the 407.
Next, forbid all MZO which affect any part of the existing Greenbelt. period.
Finally, back away from Amendment 1 and changes to the Provincial Policy Statement which will require municipalities to approve their 30 year plans by summer, 2022 and allow for lower density goals and "market demand" rationale for housing mix.
These regressive moves will increase sprawl and environmental degradation from moving away from centralizing and mass transportation initiatives when our world is facing a climate crisis.
Sure go ahead and add to the existing greenbelt; as soon as you commit wholeheartedly to protecting the existing one!
