Clean, safe, and abundant groundwater is more valuable to the local population than the money to be made by selling aggregate. Pushing a project through by exempting it from environmental oversight is an abdication of the government's responsibility to taxpayers, particularly those of future generations.
Concrete construction is a major source of greenhouse gasses. Not enough effort is being put into improving the market share of lower carbon concrete mixes. This project has one foot in the past and the other in the ancient past.
