I'm very upset at the proposal to allow MZOs that fail to allow the process of local community consultation and that do not respect the expertise and consideration of all environmental aspects associated with development.
Once destroyed, a habitat, migration point, or natural environment cannot be brought back without significant work, if at all. We have already lost so many important species of plants and animals and governments have shown that they don't understand the nuances of how all these parts of nature interact with each other.
Destroying a wetland may mean that a bird no longer comes to an area where it was a predator of some insects. Those insects may proliferate, eliminating others that pollinate specific plants important to us in a way that the government didn't make the connection to.
Proper processes have been developed over time to consider these potential losses, mitigate them, and find balance for the needs of economics, sustainability, and our larger and more long term survival.
