While the government is pledging to expand the Greenbelt (I am all for it), it is using MZOs to try and build a highway and warehouses on sensitive lands jeopardizing the very existence of the Greenbelt. Southern Ontario does not need another highway that will trigger development on land owned by developers with close ties to the Provincial government. It needs very strong laws to protect the GTA's magnificent belt of agricultural land, marshes and forests. This is what helps now and will help in the future with flood mitigation, carbon sink. It also affords enjoyment for the GTA population.
There is land available for residential development on underused golf courses and parking lots, and near existing transit routes.
Successive governments have ruined Toronto's waterfront by allowing a wall of skyscrapers right on the edge of the water. Let's not ruin the back of the city by paving it.
