To whom it may concern,
I wish to comment on ERO Number 019-3191.
This project submitted by EPCOR under the provincial government’s initiative to extend access to natural gas to more rural areas in Ontario is very important to us in the Kincardine area.
Under the Southern Bruce Natural Gas Project that was approved in 2019, Epcor was able to bring natural gas to our main industrial park, towns, and villages. Some agricultural businesses were able to join the main project along the way but most hamlets and agricultural businesses were left out.
This project is very important to our Municipality of Kincardine because it will include many farms along Highway 9 as well as the hamlets of Bervie and Millarton in the southern part of the municipality. We are hoping fibre can be installed as well to upgrade the internet access to more rural homes at the same time as natural gas.
The P&H grain dryers just south of Kincardine on Highway 21 are part of this project as well and will serve many farm businesses in the Municipality of Kincardine.
In the northern part of our municipality, Epcor has included Underwood in its proposal.
Our Ward 3 Public Works building is located there as well as the Underwood Community Centre and northern municipal office. This part of the project would be very beneficial in cost savings to the municipality, the Underwood residents and businesses.
EPCOR brought us the original Southern Bruce project and it is currently under construction. Our residents are very pleased that EPCOR was able to come into Ontario introducing more competition to the natural gas sector and therefore finally bring Natural Gas to our large rural area that had been without it before. The Municipality of Kincardine fully supports this EPCOR application to serve more of our rural residents and farms so they can benefit from the cost savings and convenience of Natural Gas.
