As gravel companies are given permission to obtain gravel on the Oak Ridges Moraine (ORM) with the agreement that the companies will reclaim the land to its "natural state" any changes which result in this not happening further degrades the land and the intent of the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation plan and Act . As the original ORMCP&A was made with the intent of protecting the moraine watershed so that clean fresh water was available for the use all Ontarians any exceptions to this would compromise the livelihood of Ontarians. The ORM provides more than a freshwater aquifer it also provides natural spaces- forest and meadows where Ontarians can escape the industrialized world .
Adding industrial activities in a rural setting where the future phase of a gravel pit was reclamation is not in the best interests of Ontarians and certainly not in the interest of the residents of Uxbridge.
If this change is permitted it is clear our local ecosystem is in danger since we have weakened the environmental acts set up to protect it. The MNRF is the policing body of this Act and federal government responsible for the present situation by failing to respond to previous infractions and allowing this industrial development to advance. Miller's application for a change in the Act must be stopped.
