I am totally shocked when I saw the PC Provincial Government is doing “Consultation on growing the size of the Greenbelt.” The previous Liberal Government passed the intensification plan on limiting city growth and the PC Government did not overturn this policy when they were voted to government. The result is that during the pandemic, people want to have larger space and they are looking for bigger houses even in suburbs driving the price of houses to crazy high level. The intensification policy reduced land for development and contributed to the shortage of houses. The Provincial Government is so out of touch with the need of the citizens and deprived our next generations the hope of owning their own house.
Not only the PC Government did not doing anything solid to alleviate the shortage of houses and help cool the housing market, they now even propose to grow the size of the Greenbelt, further reducing the availability of land for building houses. I would like to ask the PC Government to set policies to enhance of development of houses while abandon those policies that drive the shortage of houses. Instead of growing the size of the Greenbelt, they should reduce the size of the Greenbelt. Thank you for your consideration.
