Submission to the Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing Consultation on Growing the Size of the Green Belt
I recommend the following:
1. expanding the existing Urban River Valley designated areas in the Greenbelt Plan to include the Proposed Expansion Areas,

2. expanding the existing Urban River Valley designated areas in the Greenbelt Plan,

3. supporting the maintenance and restoration of a continuous corridor function within the Lake Iroquois Beach area, explicitly recognizing the importance of lands within one (1) kilometre of the Lake Ontario shoreline as wildlife habitat and a regional wildlife movement corridor; and,

4. for the Province of Ontario to provide implementing land acquisition funding to acquire new public Greenbelt Urban River Valley connection lands including Lake Ontario Waterfront lands.

I support the recommendations of the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority in the attached report prepared for this consultation:

I support the recommendations and requirements as stated in the following report of Environmental Defense prepared for Greenbelt planning:

I support expanding the Greenbelt to ensure safe drinking water sources and hydrological resources in lakes ,rivers, streams and creeks within the Great Lakes watershed as well as the associated habitats for wildlife including protection of wildlife corridors.
I recommend expansion of the Greenbelt by coordinating the protection of and acquisition of lands and green spaces to enhance public ownership of and/or to create additional public lands such as provincial parks, municipal parks, conservation areas, forested areas, Old Growth Forests, Bruce Trail, other public trail lands and Waterfront lands from areas that may be currently in private ownership to achieve these goals in consultation with Indigenous peoples and Indigenous communities coterminous with these proposals and recommendations.
