I live in North York and have been visiting Greenbelt areas since I have immigrated to Canada 25 year ago. I go to farms, I go on hikes and walks. Greenbelt needs to be be protected and expanded, because it cleans our air and water as the population grows in Southern Ontario. It has some of the best farm land and my family and friends shop for local food.
There is not enough benefits of ripping the Greenbelt of its lands. We need to add to it. Where I come from, this kind of thinking resulted from Aral see disappearing, from massive fires like the one I got to experience while on the visit back home in 2010 - first all the forests and dumps were obliterated for more effective land use, and then there were fires, no animals, no pollinators, etc. These are extreme examples and don't apply to Canada (I hope), but I hope as a province we don't enter a slippery path and remain true to the golden standard of environmental protection and strength it, not diminish it.
