While I support the proposed expansion, I believe that a much more ambitious Greenbelt expansion is needed to protect precious farmland, groundwater and natural areas in southern Ontario from development and to build resilience to climate change.

My husband and I just spent the last two days traveling to favourite natural areas in the Greater Golden Horseshoe region to see spring flowers and insects. Each site we visited was overloaded with people seeking a natural getaway to ride their bikes, walk their dogs, etc. En route we passed major new suburban-type housing developments that do not follow density design principles and are rapidly devouring what remains of agricultural land.

It's obvious that people value natural spaces and the demand for them will only increase. Wise planning decisions are urgently needed to meet both the need for development and the need to protect agricultural land and natural areas. Our watersheds are particularly in need of protection.

Please plan for the long term and expand the Greenbelt proposal to include all moraine areas within the Greater Golden Horseshoe.
