As someone who has fought for decades for the protection of the environment, green spaces, our planet, and our future, I heartily approve the protection and expansion of the Greenbelt. I was reassured by sections of the proposal that say protections will not be weakened and more types of usages will not be permitted, that affirm the importance of protecting our water, that promise the Greenbelt will not have land areas removed from it and will in fact be enlarged, and that address climate change in a forward-thinking and pro-active manner.
The question of the Paris Galt Moraine was not clear to me. A study area is fine; are we being asked whether it should be added to the Greenbelt area? It certainly sounds like a good idea. Protection of urban river valleys is also a good idea.
Overall, I believe the Greenbelt is an excellent thing that must be protected and expanded, and I hope that there is a way of ensuring that we do so in perpetuity and no future Premier or Parliament can damage it.
