Worked out gravel pits should not be regarded as potential revenue sources by their operators/license holders, particularly when they are located on protected lands. When these operators/license holders obtained their licenses to extract material from these lands they entered into agreements that included rehabilitating the pit in a manner that would minimize the impact of the site on the local environment. The importation of large quantities of material not native to the area and of a different composition to those of the site should not be approved for the Miller Boyington Pit #3, particularly in view of it being located on the protected lands located within the boundaries of the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan and Act.
