The Township Application requests for continued use of a non-permitted contractor’s yard, removal of the asphalt plant from MNRF oversight, a new 40,000 sq ft industrial building, and importing 1 million cubic meters of fill.
The MNRF Application is to move 36 hectares of land from the oversight of the MNRF over to the Township of Uxbridge which would allow the Township to approve all of the requests in the Township Application.

I am a resident of Uxbridge and have been for the past 25 years, I am totally opposed to the Miller Pit proposal and application as mentioned above.
We moved to Uxbridge, as I said 25 years ago, because of its location, we wanted to reside in a small town environment, away from city centres. Uxbridge appealed to us... it was quiet, quaint, non-industrial and it was part of the Oak Ridges Moraine. BONUS!!!!!
Being part of the Oak Ridges Moraine meant we were investing in the right area...Uxbridge offered a safe environment to raise our family and we felt protected from industrial changes.
When we purchased and renovated our home, I believe we required approval from the township to get our permit and the green light, due to the fact we were close to spring water fed ponds and the creek (both EP protected). We were had to follow the existing protocol to be in compliance and to not disturb this already protected environment.
Now... one business can change everything....I am absolutely shocked that such a proposal was even considered by our township and that an application has been placed with MNRF, so that the township can eventually approve such a request.... for what ?????
As a resident and tax payer, I must say that approving this proposal would destroy this beautiful protected area, disturb the aquifers and provide significant risk to the quality of our water. Many residents are using well water and depend on the quality of our water to survive.
Risking the quality of our water may cause residents to move away, as their home value will go down dramatically and the township would also suffer from lower taxes, based on value.
As well, I believe our township is not equipped to direct and oversee such a large operation. As we know the Miller Pit has a past history of non compliance, how can we trust their organization?
How can the quality of one million cubic feet of fill be controlled?.... when hundreds of trucks would daily come to this location for months upon months to come. As well this will cause major damages to this township infrastructure, roads in particular, not to overlook how the wild life would suffer from such a proposal.
In fact....Concession 7, where the Miller Pit is located is already a dangerous road, the speed limit is 80km south of Brookdale Road and trucks always drive way too fast when heading north to Uxbridge, way above speed limit.
Since our recent mayor was elected, Uxbridge seems to have changed...many more developments are going up and large properties are being sold to developers as well.
There aren't too many towns like Uxbridge, I am saddened with the possibility of loosing it all...for what... to enrich one industry which would not benefit our town.
This is the Trail Capital of Ontario...not the pit capital. If this application is approved this could mean many more application approvals in the future.
I would likely consider moving out of Uxbridge should this proposal be accepted.
I care about out town, please protect our environment
Uxbridge Resident.
