The cancellation of our cap & trade program is an incredibly stupid and short-sighted decision that not only hurts the people of Canada, but also the businesses that develop and invest in Ontario.
What business needs is stability. It is better to have an established system for combating climate change, one that is accepted and which everyone can plan around, than it is to be subject to this level of chaos and uncertainty. No one is benefiting from this move.
The OPC claim that the average Ontario family will save $260 a year by canceling cap & trade. A year. The idea that we should continue to irreparably damage our environment, and in doing so create far greater costs that we, and our children and grandchildren will all have to pay, to save what amounts to the cost of a Netflix subscription is sheer lunacy.
Not only that, but in cancelling this program we have lost numerous benefits, such as the green incentives that helped families to make long term investments like installing solar panels which save them far more than $260 a year in the long run. Not only that, but those incentives created business for local contractors doing installation work, which feeds even more growth in our economy.
Cap and trade should be reinstated immediately, along with all of the benefits it was used to fund.
