I request that the Ontario Government stop claiming that creating electricity by burning wood is good for the environment. Burning wood releases more carbon at exit from the smokestack than does coal, which is a heavy polluter itself.
The Ontario Government argues that only waste would be used for this purpose. That is not factual. Increasing timbering is taken from live forests for energy production, and wood is exported for this purpose as well. Cutting down trees as a climate solution is not only logically wrong, it has no science behind it. It's wrong.
Claims that wood burning is "green" or "not environmentally damaging", or that it creates green jobs are demonstrably untrue.
So please, halt the practice of making these claims and creating policies that encourage wood burning..
Please.
