The decision to pull out of the cap and trade program is short sighted, misguided, foolish, lacks any semblance of a plan to replace it, and the government has virtually no science, or evidence, to support their stance.
Not only has this province lost out on hundreds of millions of dollars in funding already, as outlined in the CBC article attached, but now a likely lengthy court battle is underway. Green Peace has started court proceedings relating to the hasty way the government acted in pulling out of the cap and trade program, by eschewing the proper governmental guidelines for public consultations. This only further demonstrates how poorly thought out that this decision has proven to be, and how little actually policy was studied before the execution of this ill-informed plan was followed through on. There will undoubtedly be further lawsuits relating to this governments decision, since many businesses have already been affected financially after readying themselves to be part of the cap and trade system laid out by the previous government.
The taxpayers of Ontario deserve better than watching countless federal funding being lost out on, spending needless dollars on lawsuits being fought over poor policy decisions, and having businesses in financial disarray due to this governments neglectful decision making process.
