In reading the summary material, I cannot help be left with the impression that this proposed action is intended mostly to provide legal shelter to the government - limiting liability and payout.
The cap and trade program, while far from perfect, was SOMETHING. The concern of course is there is no apparent follow-up proposal.
The messages being sent from this move suggest a poor business investment environment with a government that won’t hessitate to use strong arm tacticts (Notwithstanding) and will not honour contracts.
We demand action on climate change, investment in renewable sources of energy, and consideration for our environment and climate change in a thoughtful, scientific manner. Saving a couple of bucks by rolling back our environmental plans makes no sense. We need political will to make the right investments for the sake of our future.
This is the wrong decision, and I urge the government to at least hold off this legislation until an alternative is brought forward.
