This is a gross abdication of a government to care for all its constituents, current and future. Cap and trade, like carbon taxes, is a great way to send the economic signals to make smarter choices for our future without handicapping anyone's ability to do as they please. In trying to give incentives not only to pollute but to develop harmful long term decisions, like those around normalizing longer auto-only commutes and energy-intensive building design, we horribly reshape the future in a way that is harmful to ourselves, our descendants, and our planet. Without any credible alternative or even a sensible transition, this is irresponsible at best, criminal at worst. Do not follow through on this laughingstock of a plan.
