As a group of professional land use planners representing the public interest in the Province, we believe the removal of the existing Urban Growth Centre boundary from Downtown Burlington is not consistent with and does not conform to Provincial policy.
We believe a decision to remove the Urban Growth Centre boundary from the existing Downtown will have a detrimental effect on the ability to accommodate growth, needed housing and employment and continued investment in the Downtown.
To uphold the public interest in Provincial planning, Urban Growth Centres should not be removed to address local opposition to growth. This decision sets a negative precedent and is contrary to the principles set out in A Place to Grow.
