I agree with the temporary suspension of the protection of Black Ash in Ontario. I did not feel that it should be listed as a protected species. My own observations have been that the White Ash and Green Ash tend to be the ones that I'm seeing impacted by the EAB. Though, that was just a casual observation.
The inclusion of this particular species has far reaching implications as it is a wetland species and it will result in the automatic increase in value of wetlands from non-PSWs to PSW simply because of its presence. In Eastern Ontario, we encounter this species more often than not in tall shrub swamps and treed swamps. Before protecting this species under ESA, MECP and MNDMNRF should discuss how best to proceed.
