There is world-wide pier-reviewed scientific consensus that humanity is at risk of calamitous loss and hardship if we do not succeed in keeping global climate change below an average increase of 2 degrees. Canada has agreed to its proportionate share of the effort to achieve this target at the Paris Accord, and Ontario in-turn must do its share to reduce emissions to help meet Canada’s international commitment.
It is irresponsible to drop the previous government’s proposed program for doing this without first proposing a detailed replacement program and allowing that program to be subjected to full public scrutiny. Any replacement program must be legally binding on both the Ontario Government and corporate participants, and must be shown through public disclosures to be capable of successfully meeting Ontario’s share of Canada’s reduction targets, and to be an improvement on the existing program.
The issue of Climate Change is too important to be treated with anything short of the most serious of considerations. The continuation of the way of life we have come to expect and assume depends on doing the right thing now for future generations.
